CLASS SUPPLIES

  • variety of sticks at least ¼ inch in diameter, about 10 different lengths It is ideal to gather your sticks from nature; if not available you might find some at a craft, hobby or garden store
  • garden clipper to cut sticks
  • roll of duct tape or similar strong tape
  • about a yard of quilt batting cut into
1 to 1-1/2 inch strips Or may use tshirt fabric instead of quilt batting cut in at least 2 in strips Beacon 3-in-1 fabric glue or a instant glue that dries quickly or glue gun
  • roll of florist tape any color
  • a package of chenille sticks (pipe cleaners)
  • needles and embroidery floss or thread
  • scissors
  • acrylic paint for coloring the face, bring a color to paint the skin of doll, eyes and lips and
  • paint brushes and water and rags
  • extra soft pastels and some small bristle brushes
  • Crayola Model Magic for face so bring color you want  - 1 bag your skin tone color
  • I small knitting needle or clay tools
  • Face Push Mold (see column to right)
  • Fabrics for costuming - My favorite fabrics are soft, flexible, scarves I purchase at my local thrift stores. I like scarves because they are colored on both side and can be easily manipulated to form around a doll. If you can find, pick up some that are transparent, they are great for layering.

The Face is the first thing people look at when they look at a doll and its one of the most challenging things to make when learning about doll making. I have beginning dollmakers use face molds or premade faces. Ultimately you want to learn how to make your own faces. This takes time and lots of experimentation and practice.

Face Push Molds -
In United States - Minnesota
I personally like Maureen Carlson’s Push Molds

High quality and easy to use.
I used her F21, F22, F23 which are 2 and ¼ “ face molds
There may be others you like as well.

Maureen also sells on Etsy

There are other Face Mold makers on Etsy, they tend to be smaller than Maureen's. Check sizes and prices before ordering.
